...à la Mer ! Fashion with a Cause https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/cultureaporter/a-la-mer-fashion-with-a-cause?ref=discovery https://www.facebook.com/WarkaWater/?fref=mentions One year ago, Hurricane Matthew severely impacted many parts of Haiti. In the aftermath of the storm, architect Arturo Vittori was invited to bring Warka Tower to the country to help address the scarcity of drinking water in various communities. During a trip to the island, Arturo was invited to conduct a workshop with local artisans organized by the local Foundation AfricAmerica and other local partners within the framework of the"European Program for Culture" funded by the European Union in Haiti. From that experience, ”Culture à Porter” was born; a project which aims to empower the isolated communities all around the world, promoting their handicrafts by creating inedited products made locally for an international market, allowing the economic, social and ethnic development. Part of the company profits will go to support the activities of the nonprofit Warka Water, Inc. and more specifically this crowdfunding will support a construction of the first Warka Tower pilot in Haiti. “… a la Mer !” is the ”Culture à Porter” 2018 summer collection, all objects are made of colorful macramé cord hand-knotted by local artisans from Haiti. With every pledge, you will be helping Haitian local artisans to grow and develop. Not only will you help ensure the continuation of these craft traditions in the years to come, but you will also make it possible for these skills to be passed on to the youngest generations. Our goal is to invest in Haitian local production and to empower the local economy working with artisans to create new, exciting fashion accessories for an international market. "We want to be part of this renaissance, weaving the future of Haitian communities, working with artisans, bringing Warka Tower to isolated and vulnerable communities that lack drinking water."
