031 Passerella Volante
‘Passerella Volante’ is a proposal for a pedestrian bridge in Civita di Bagnoregio, Italy. Using the existing concrete pillars from a 20th century concrete bridge, the new lightweight timber construction reestablishes the historic line of the 18th century ridge that has undergone extensive ground erosion. While connecting the villages of Civita and Bagnoregio, the bridge creates a new dialogue between the historic place and the dramatic landscape around. The varied width of the deck allows people to sit and enjoy the panoramic view of the valley and neighboring hill towns. The double-helix structure covering the walkway is equipped with colored canopies, offering protection from wind and sun, and photovoltaic panels that power the evening illumination of the bridge.
